Ski tourists

Poiana Brasov is a few hours drive north of Bucharest in the Romanian province of Transylvania.  Yes, that Transylvania.  The Carpathian mountains are stunning in their steep rise from the southern plains.  The peak we skied is about 1800m (5,800 ft) with a vertical of 775m (about 2,500 ft). We were able to stay at a small and friendly pension a 5 minute walk from the main lift.

The number of runs was limited, but the off-piste skiing was plentiful. Although, conditions went downhill (pun intended!) as the week went on with a rain-freeze cycle.

One could almost hear vampire music...
This 6-person chairlift had a retractable dome to shelter us from the wind, snow, and rain
We did get one bluebird day and the views were stunning
Half of the skiers on the mountain were knee high to grasshopper

Ursus was our Romanian beer of choice. Bear (the animal) was also on C's dinner menu!

M representing with his cousin's Aspyre Attire!
M's namesake was our ski rental connection and did his best to convince M to move there. "We have skiing and many pretty girls!" I think he would have a job in big M's ski shop as well. The rental shop had stickers and M started to ask for one, but before he could finish the question his new mentor blurted out, "Yes, yes, of course! Anything! Whatever you ask for the answer is yes!"
