Ancient City I (Olympos)

Imagine a quiet, beautiful beach surrounded by steep mountains and lush forest.  Make a river run down a narrow valley and where it pours out into the ocean, build a city on the fertile delta.
Sounds like a perfect location for a prosperous settlement, and for centuries the corner of our holiday-beach was an important city in the ancient world.  For me it was mind-boggling to walk on roads made more than 2000 years ago and marvel at rock walls put together by hands of men while imagining their families, feelings, thoughts, and dreams.
Part of the city (maybe most) is still unexcavated and buried in the ground, under mounds and covered with big trees and thick bushes.  We walked off the main tourist trail, and felt like Indiana Jones, ready to discover hidden treasures.  I was more convinced we would stumble over big snakes or poisonous plants, but instead we found an abandoned pomegranate grove.  Since it happened to be mid pomegranate season, we did help ourselves to a little taste of heaven.
